Where the break-even sits
The ordinary 7-day pass is worth about 3.5 one-way rides from Tokyo to Shin-Osaka on Hikari. The 14-day pass is about 5.6 and the 21-day pass about 6.9. Long rides add up faster: one Tokyo to Hiroshima ride on Hikari is ¥18,910, and a round trip from Tokyo to Hakata through Shin-Osaka is ¥59,360.
