Is the Japan Rail Pass Worth It?

Is the Japan Rail Pass worth it?

Trips

How the comparison works

Every trip is priced at the regular one-way fare plus the reserved-seat limited express charge for the car you choose, in the normal season. The pass is picked by the number of days from your first ride to your last: 7, 14 or 21 consecutive days. If a trip is on Nozomi or Mizuho, the NOZOMI MIZUHO Ticket price is added to the pass side, because the pass does not cover those trains by itself.

Example: Tokyo to Shin-Osaka and back on Hikari is ¥28,800 in tickets, against ¥50,000 for the cheapest pass. Add Shin-Osaka to Hakata and back and the tickets reach ¥59,360.
